The 2nd “Beyond Interpreting” Russian Interpreting Contest of Jilin Province was held successfully

On December 15, 2019, the 2nd “Beyond Interpreting” Russian Interpreting Contest of Jilin Province was successfully held in Lecture Hall 500 of the College of Foreign Languages.  

The contest was divided into two parts: Russian-Chinese sight interpreting and Russian-Chinese + Chinese-Russian interpreting, where the hosts Светлана Гармаева and Zhao Shuohan acted as question readers. The questions covered a wide range and closely followed many heated topics about Russian and Chinese economy and culture, etc. During the competition, the contestants made good use of their professional knowledge and interpreted calmly and smoothly. The whole contest process was tense and competitive, but warm and smooth as well. The judges scored the contestants according to the accuracy of their interpretation, the length of time used and their overall language proficiency. After the fierce competition, 18 people were awarded the Frand, First, Second and Third prize for two grades. A total of 7 students from the Russian Department of our college took part and all of them achieved excellent results. Zhou Wanyu won the Grand Prize for the junior grade, Liu Yurui, Li Jing and Zhang Wen won the Third Prize for the junior grade. Liu Gengjun won the First Prize for the senior grade, Wang Naiqin won the Second Prize for the senior grade and Lv Jiawei won the Third Prize for the senior grade.  

The contest was sponsored by the Northeast Asia International Language and Culture Research Base, the College of Foreign Languages of Jilin University, and the Russian Language Center of Jilin University. Altogether 61 Russian majors from eight universities participated in the contest, including Jilin University, Northeast Normal University, Jilin Normal University, Changchun Normal University, Changchun University of Science and Technology, Changchun University, Changchun University of Technology, and Yanbian University. The competition provided a platform for Russian students from different universities in Jilin Province to showcase themselves and learn from each other, and it also enhanced the communication between students from different universities.
